Late So Soon - May Finishes!

I cannot believe it has been nearly 3 months since I last posted on my blog. I have just been a little bit MIA from the blogosphere. I found the following on a blog I follow and thought it was appropriate.

How did it get so late so soon?
It's night before it's afternoon.
December is here before it's  June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon? - Dr. Seuss

I have been spending most of my free time doing other things besides stitching.  The weather here in Texas has been hot but I have really been enjoying it by spending a lot of time outside with family and friends.

Since my last post in April, I have started and finished a couple of things. I will break the post up into two or more posts for May, June and July.

So here it goes for May.

After working on large projects I decided I needed a little bit of a change.  So I went through the stash and found a couple of small samplers that I could work on. The first one is J. M. Gardner by With They Needle.

Worked on 35-ct R&R using the recommended Weeks Dye Works threads
Started on 2 may 2013 and completed on 11 May 2013

The Tudor Rose Sampler guild hosted Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers for a workshop on Saturday, May 4.  Paulette designed a beautiful sampler for our guild called Crowned Bird Sampler and two smalls.  Here is a picture of the two smalls that I stitched (and finished!)..

A Sewing Tray and Berry by Plum Street Samplers
Designed for the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild
Started on 4 May 2013 and Finished on 6 May 2013

Here is a link to the sampler.  I have started mine but have not gotten very far so not much to see. I will post a picture of my start as soon as I get a little bit further along.

I started and completed Mary Roe 1808 by The Scarlett House. This sampler moved to the top of my to-do pile after seeing the Nicole’s finish.

Started on 11 May 2013 and finished on 28 May 2013

On the healthcare front - I completed my last chemotherapy session on 26 April for the colon cancer. At this time I am cancer free and will just need to go the oncologist for follow-up every three months for the first couple of years and then moving up to about once a year in five years.  I am very blessed to have so many friends and family that gave me great comfort and support.  I also must thank all of you for all your kind words of encouragement, support, thoughts and praters.  I am truly blessed. It goes without saying that I am so glad to have this trial behind me and look forward to what else life has in store....

I will post again soon with the accomplishments of June and July.

Keep on Stitchin' - Robert...

Beautiful finishes...so VERY glad to get health report I was a bit worried it has been 3 months. Glad you have been enjoying yourself with friends and family. Dr Seuss may be written for children but we can all learn a lesson or two from him. Stay cool.

Thankful and happy of your good news. I understand fully about the weather living just a bit farther up the road from you in Bowie. The heat does take it out of one. Your finishes are once again lovely to look upon.

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks.

First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone.

Anniversaries of the Heart Finish and A Flamestitch!

As promised in my previous post, here is a brief update on some other stitching progress.

During April and the first part of May I worked on finishing up my Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs. This has been a work in progress for a long time so I was glad to get it finished.
Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs Worked on 40-ct Lakeside Reindeer using Gentle Arts, Weeks Dye, and Crescent Colours Started in April 2010 and finished in May 2013
The hardest part was deciding on the personalized blocks for the family members that I want to include on the sampler.  They include by father-in-law, grandparents, great grandparents, my mother, father, wife, son and daughter. I inserted a saying that is special to me and my family in the the alphabet block at the top of the sampler.  "As for me and my house will serve the Lord" - Joshua 24:15

And changed the bottom of the November block by adding a bird from another Blackbird chart.

And of course the last block for …

Amy Mitten's Friesland Winder's Keeper - Part 1

I have been a big fan of Amy Mitten and her designs since I took one of her classes a few years ago. The project was one of her mystery classes "Not For Us Alone". I still have not finished the piece but hope to this year. She had some other mystery pieces available for sale during the class and I purchased "Tour Van Holland" -- a Friesland style sampler based on her travels in the Netherlands and Germany. I finished this sampler a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorites. When Amy announced her on-line tutorial this year, I could not resist signing up for Friesland Winder's Keeper. Once the kit came in at the end of last month all other projects were tossed aside to work on this wonderful piece.

I have completed all of the stitching but need to work on the back stitching around the pieces for finishing the keeper. The second part of the class will be at the end of March so I do have a little bit of time to get the back stitching completed.

Well -- ba…
