Anniversaries of the Heart Finish and A Flamestitch!

As promised in my previous post, here is a brief update on some other stitching progress.

During April and the first part of May I worked on finishing up my Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs. This has been a work in progress for a long time so I was glad to get it finished.

Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs
Worked on 40-ct Lakeside Reindeer using Gentle Arts, Weeks Dye, and Crescent Colours
Started in April 2010 and finished in May 2013

The hardest part was deciding on the personalized blocks for the family members that I want to include on the sampler.  They include by father-in-law, grandparents, great grandparents, my mother, father, wife, son and daughter. I inserted a saying that is special to me and my family in the the alphabet block at the top of the sampler.  "As for me and my house will serve the Lord" - Joshua 24:15

And changed the bottom of the November block by adding a bird from another Blackbird chart.

And of course the last block for personalization

I have been working on my next Scarlet Letter project for Nicola's Scarlet Letter Year - A Flamestitch.  I have made a little bit of progress. All of that fill in of black on the bottom is a little boring so I move around a lot to help keep things a little bit more interesting.

Worked on 40-ct Lakeside Pear using DMC

I'll be back next week to post another update on another stitching project that I started last week (HINT: Got bored with A Flamestitch so started another Scarlet Letter sampler from the stash).

Keep on Stitchin....Robert

Congratulations on your "Anniversaries", Robert! They are such charming designs and stitched together as one they are a beautiful way to honor your family ... I love it!
And I also love SL's "A Flamestitch" ... the photos of your stitching show just how stunning it is. Definitely on my "one day" list!
Can't wait to see what else you've got started!

Wow. I say that a lot when I come to your blog. AoTH is beautiful and the sL one is looking great too. I can see how all the filling in, black or otherwise, would be a bit boring after awhile!

Looking forward to seeing your next stitch report!

Congratulations on another beautiful finish in Anniversaries. Flame Stitch is just striking with the black background - I am sure all the filling is boring, but so worth the effort.

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks.

First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone.

Amy Mitten's Friesland Winder's Keeper - Part 1

I have been a big fan of Amy Mitten and her designs since I took one of her classes a few years ago. The project was one of her mystery classes "Not For Us Alone". I still have not finished the piece but hope to this year. She had some other mystery pieces available for sale during the class and I purchased "Tour Van Holland" -- a Friesland style sampler based on her travels in the Netherlands and Germany. I finished this sampler a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorites. When Amy announced her on-line tutorial this year, I could not resist signing up for Friesland Winder's Keeper. Once the kit came in at the end of last month all other projects were tossed aside to work on this wonderful piece.

I have completed all of the stitching but need to work on the back stitching around the pieces for finishing the keeper. The second part of the class will be at the end of March so I do have a little bit of time to get the back stitching completed.
