Amy Mitten's Friesland Winder's Keeper - Part 1

I have been a big fan of Amy Mitten and her designs since I took one of her classes a few years ago. The project was one of her mystery classes "Not For Us Alone". I still have not finished the piece but hope to this year. She had some other mystery pieces available for sale during the class and I purchased "Tour Van Holland" -- a Friesland style sampler based on her travels in the Netherlands and Germany. I finished this sampler a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorites. When Amy announced her on-line tutorial this year, I could not resist signing up for Friesland Winder's Keeper. Once the kit came in at the end of last month all other projects were tossed aside to work on this wonderful piece.






I have completed all of the stitching but need to work on the back stitching around the pieces for finishing the keeper. The second part of the class will be at the end of March so I do have a little bit of time to get the back stitching completed.

Well -- back to another work in progress. More to come later.

Ooooh, I like how this one looks! So pretty! I didn't do the basting around the thread winder pieces yet, so you're a bit farther along with the bs and basting than I am. lol! I figure we have time though. I'll get to it -- probably right before the finishing kit comes.

This is just so beautiful. I had been looking at the thread winder projects too, I liked all three of them, but this one really has amazing colors and detail.

Robert, this is gorgeous. I had hoped to start mine this weekend but instead finished my Stacy Nash Girls Club project from Spring Green Sampler and tonight I need to start my CCN March cottage so that it may have hopes of being finished and framed before March is over. Then I have a birthday gift to stitch and then I really hope to start my Friesland piece.

Lovely to see your finished Friesland stitching, I am still way behind and know that I won't have it completed by the end of March, but I do have all the stitching done for the winder inserts so I will have something to finish!!

Wow that looks amazing. It took me forever to decide between the Friesland and the Vierlande one. I love the aqua and green winders and it will look stunning with your expert stitching.

I have almost the first 2 pages of instructions done. Thanks for the push to keep going.

Robert, this is beautiful. Love the colors! Not For Us Alone is next up for my focus piece. I'm about halfway through Chapter 2 so I have quite a bit left to do on it, but I'm hoping to finish it sometime this summer.

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. ...

Christmas in July!

I would like to thank all of you for your kind comments, thoughts and prayers regarding my health issue. A brief update is provided at the end of the post. In my last post I had not yet decided whether to start something new or to finish something in my WIP pile.   It has been very hot here in North Texas so doing a couple of holiday pieces seemed to be in order. Jane Pattison 1806 by Shakespeare's Peddler I have had this chart in my stash since it first became available.   This piece really looks very looks and feels like a Christmas sampler with the border of green garland and candles.   I stitched this on 40-ct Lakeside linen using the recommended Gentle Arts Sampler Threads instead of the recommended wool threads. I did substitute the Harvest Basket with Gold Leaf since the Harvest Basket was very close in color to Cidermill Brown and I wanted to add a little bit of gold to the piece like in the picture on the pattern.
