Something Old, Something New!

First Up -- Something Old

After finishing Mary Allen 1818, I deciced that I needed to get back to work on my Celtic Wallace and Robertson Sampler by Darleen O' Steen.  I have finished part one (Wallace) and working towards getting the second part (Robertson) finished by the end of the year.  I am waiting until all of the stitiching is complete before filling in all of the metallic thread areas.

I am really liking this sampler because it is a challenge with all of the queen stitches. As most of my stitching friends know, queen stitches are (or were) one of my least favorite stitches.  But now that I have the hang of working them they are not too bad. Now if I could only get the hang of doing detached buttonhole I will be able to get back to some samplers that I really want to start and complete.

Something New --

In my last post I stated that I was going to start  Scarlet Letter's IRS 1763.  Well I did start the sampler but after working on it for a couple of weeks I decided I just did not like the color pallete.  The colors just were not as bold as I thought they would be -- more muted and pastel.  So after consulting with my friend Cozy Egg, I decided to put it aside and work on changing some of the colors.  I might just replace some of the colors I am not happy with instead of starting all over.  Once I decide I will let everyone know the outcome.

So, after putting it aside I decided that I still wanted to work on an older reproduction so I started BB 1699 by The Essamplaire.  I have done a couple of samplers in the this style.  The kit came with a 30-ct linen which I have replaced with the a 40-ct Lakeside Navy Bean using the silk threads in the kit.

On Saturday, September 17 I attended a finishing class for my Patrick Woods Spot In the Mountains.  During the class I was able to get the pocket sewn together but still need to attach the binding.  Once this is completed I will post a picture.

Thank you once again for stopping by my little blog and leaving your kind comments.

Absolutely beautiful work. The Darlene O'Steen piece is truly heirloom. I know people use that term often but in this case I think it's justified with the amount of work that has gone into it, you should be proud.

Both pieces are just gorgeous! I really love how the Celtic piece is coming out. I have it in my stash for someday -- yours is inspirational. And the Essamplaire piece -- so pretty! I've never seen this one before and may have to order it when I have the money. Looking forward to seeing more of both pieces.

I had not seen the Celtic W&R Sampler before. Your piece is looking amazing. Also amazing is how much you have done on the BB 1699 reproduction sampler already. The silks look great on the Navy Bean linen.

Robert, you're making me want to work on Wallace again! Alas Christmas stitching has to come first. It's nice to live vicariously. :) Your work is wonderful!

Wallace and Robertson is, of course, gorgeous. I can't wait to see that gold in there!! Good choice on pulling out BB. That's a nice one too! You'll be much happier with the other if you can tweak some of the colors I think. One or two might just be enough to change the palette.

Celtic design is very bright and colorful! A new process is gentle and pleasant! I look forward to the continuation!

I love your Wallace and Robertson sampler. Hopefully it has more specialty stitches in it other than Queen stitches, I'm not a fan of them either. Your start on BB 1699 is beautiful, looking forward to seeing more.

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks. First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone. Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. ...

Back in the Saddle!

Hello to all my fellow stitchers/bloggers and thank you for stopping by! I cannot believe that it has been over 2 months since my last post. Where does the time go? I have been away from the blogging world due to some unforeseen health issues. I have posted a brief summary and update at the end of this blog if you are interested. As stated in my last post, I lost a little bit of my mojo in the stitching realm. I could not focus on any of my projects. I decided to focus on the Mexican Schoolgirl Practice Sampler c1830 by Samplers Remembered . This one had some bright colors and different motifs which at least made me feel like I was making some progress. Worked on 40-ct Porcelain Lakeside Linen using DMC and the recommended Waterlilies. After this was completed I decided to start Sarah Elizabeth Brooke’s 1842 by The Scarlet House . This was a very fun stitch and kept me occupied during my recovery from surgery. I stitched the grassy area at the bottom of the sampler us...
