Greetings from Stockholm

First I want to apologize to all my friends and followers for not posting in over two weeks.  Life and work have gotten in the way of keeping everyone up to date on any finishes and works in progress.

As mentioned in my profile, I am a software consultant for a company based in Dallas, Texas. One of the  the projects that I am currently working on has me traveling to Stockholm, Sweden about once a month. I have not been traveling since December of last year so it has been a nice break.

Here are a couple of pictures from one of my favorite cities -- Stockholm (excuse the quality - just have my camera phone this trip).

These are taken by the Royal Palace looking east and west at a couple of the any bridges of Stockholm. The one to the right is the overflow from the lake into the bay (see all the chunks of ice from the frozen lake!). The one to the left show a portion of the Royal Palace, the National Museum, and some buildings located on the island of Skeppsholmen.

This past weekend, I attended an Amy Mitten Mystery Sampler class as a part of our local sampler guild.  It was a lot of fun and the sampler that she created in honor of our guild's 10th Anniversary is really neat.  I can hardly wait to show you a picture of this neat piece.

I have put Rhoda Hastings aside for a little bit.  There is not much left to go on her but decided I wanted to work on something else while traveling.

So my traveling companion this trip is Aeltie Claes 1673 by Essamplaire. (Again I apologize for the quality of the photo). I changed the fabric from that provided in the kit.  This has a lot of areas done in white silk and you could not see it on the light color fabric.

I really like the early Dutch samplers.  I think it is the geometric bands on the side that really are fun to work.  All the different colors.  This one is unique in that it only uses 7 colors – Red, Blue, Green, Brown. White, Maroon, and Gold.

As always, thank you for visiting my blog.  I promise to do better at updating even if it is to show you some of the places that I get to visit.

Hi Robert,
Your stitching is always amazing to see.
I so enjoyed our visit and hope that we can meet up over here. We are still under a layer of snow ( again) and I am ready for winter to bid adieu. Hope everything goes well on this trip.
I will be back in TX in June for an EGA thing, and hope we can arrange a get together then as well. Take care, Sylvia

Robert,

As usual, you are stitching away on something big that will be done in no time at all!! Looks like you have a lot done on the Essamplaire piece already. Can't wait to see it finished. :) Hope to see you at the next guild meeting.

Hi Robert,

Don't you love Amy Mitten? I love her floss too! I haven't seen Aeltie before. Your sampler is going to be fabulous! After looking through some of your posts, I can see you don't go for the easy stuff!

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks. First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone. Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. ...

Back in the Saddle!

Hello to all my fellow stitchers/bloggers and thank you for stopping by! I cannot believe that it has been over 2 months since my last post. Where does the time go? I have been away from the blogging world due to some unforeseen health issues. I have posted a brief summary and update at the end of this blog if you are interested. As stated in my last post, I lost a little bit of my mojo in the stitching realm. I could not focus on any of my projects. I decided to focus on the Mexican Schoolgirl Practice Sampler c1830 by Samplers Remembered . This one had some bright colors and different motifs which at least made me feel like I was making some progress. Worked on 40-ct Porcelain Lakeside Linen using DMC and the recommended Waterlilies. After this was completed I decided to start Sarah Elizabeth Brooke’s 1842 by The Scarlet House . This was a very fun stitch and kept me occupied during my recovery from surgery. I stitched the grassy area at the bottom of the sampler us...
