First Blog Post of 2012

A very Happy New Year to all of my friendly followers and fellow stitchers.

It is hard to believe that another year has come to an end.  This past year seemed to go by way to fast. And at looking at the date of my last post it seems that once again I have not kept to my goal of at least updating my blog once a month.  I would really like to be like some of my fellow bloggers who post at least once a week. I think a gola this year will be to at least post once a month and gradually build into it.  It would be great if I could at least post a couple of snapshots of current WIPS without having to think of something to say.

I had a total of twelve finishes in 2011 which I am really proud of since a few of them were fairly large samplers. The complete list can be found at the bootom of my blog under Completed 2011.

I did manage to get two projects completed before the end of the year - B.B 1699 by The Essamplaire and Side By Side Band Samplers by The Scarlet Letter.

B.B 1699 by The Essamplaire
Worked on 40-Ct Lakeside Linen using AVAS Silks

I really like Dutch samplers and this one was a joy to stitch.  You do get a little bit tired of the beige and green but the motifs are a lot of fun to stitch. I switched out the linen in the kit to a 40 count LakeSide linen and stitched it with one strand of silk over two.  The kit contained a 30-ct hand-dyed linen with instructions two stitch it with two strands of silk over two linen threads. I will be using the 30-ct linen for another project. This one will be added to my collection of Dutch samplers which I hope to get framed and hung together on a wall.  Just need to save up the peenies for the framing.

The Side by Side Band Sampler is one of those that has been on my wish list for a long time.  I was able to purchase the chart and fabric from a friend who was cleaning out some of her stash in preparation for a move.

Worked on 40-ct Lakeside Linen using NPI and AVAS Silks

This was stitched on a 40-ct lakeside linen using a combination of AVAS and NPI silks. the chart called for all AVAS threads but I decided to switch some of the colors and replace with a couple of my own choosing.  I really like how this one came out.  I was so excited to get the chart that I started it almost immeduately and did not stop until it was completed.  That is something new for me since I tend to get bored with one sampler and move on to another.  So I guess a good goal for the year would be to start and finish a sampler before moving on to another.  But that is propably not likely since there is always something new put out by a designer or something you see on another blog temps you (and there are a lot of those out there).

There is no new start for me this month.  Since I am in my Dutch/German mood I decided to get back to finishing Aeltie Claes 1673 Sampler by The Essamplaire.  Since I just picked this back up last night I have not made any progress since the last time I shared a picture (click here to see where I left off). I promise to post a sanp of the progress by the end of the month.

Once, again I must thank each of you for stopping by and leaving your kind comments.  May the New Year bring you peace, hope, prosperity and plenty of time to stitch.

Just love all the new samplers and it was great to see them "in person" last night. Your work always notivates me to get busy on some of my larger WIP samplers and that is my goal for the year.

Love BB! Congratulations on so many finishes this year. Your goal is to post a bit more and mine is just the opposite : post a bit less in order to finish more projects ;-)

12 finishes in one year - with the size they are - that is GREAT! Good Work!
If you just want to post pics that's ok with me as long as you include fabric and title with designer. - so I can drool and contemplate purchase.

Happy Stitching!

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks. First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone. Amy Mitten Designs Kit -Worked on 36-ct ...

Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. ...

Christmas in July!

I would like to thank all of you for your kind comments, thoughts and prayers regarding my health issue. A brief update is provided at the end of the post. In my last post I had not yet decided whether to start something new or to finish something in my WIP pile.   It has been very hot here in North Texas so doing a couple of holiday pieces seemed to be in order. Jane Pattison 1806 by Shakespeare's Peddler I have had this chart in my stash since it first became available.   This piece really looks very looks and feels like a Christmas sampler with the border of green garland and candles.   I stitched this on 40-ct Lakeside linen using the recommended Gentle Arts Sampler Threads instead of the recommended wool threads. I did substitute the Harvest Basket with Gold Leaf since the Harvest Basket was very close in color to Cidermill Brown and I wanted to add a little bit of gold to the piece like in the picture on the pattern. I also stitch two bands...
